Director of Post-School Success

Nova Pioneer is looking for a superstar Director of Post-School Success in South Africa who will launch our students on a journey toward a fulfilling career and life of impact. The Director of Post-School Success will join our leadership team and will drive the development of a distinctive university and career guidance program that is integrated into everyday learning at Nova Pioneer.

About Nova Pioneer

Imagine a world in which every young person across Africa attends a school that truly sets them up for success in the 21st century. A school that cares about individual students and allows them to explore the world around them. A school that focuses more on developing skills than on memorizing content. At Nova Pioneer, we have done more than just imagine this future, we are bringing it to life. Nova Pioneer is a pan-African, independent network of schools offering high quality, accessible education from pre-primary through secondary school. Nova Pioneer uses a unique, enquiry-based learning approach that encourages students to ask “why” instead of telling them the “what”. It allows them to form their own thinking through exploration, investigation and collaboration. Nova Pioneer currently has 6 schools in South Africa and Kenya with a vision to launch 100 schools and reach tens of thousands of students across the African continent in the next decade. About the Role

The Director of Post School Success is an essential role that will help drive one of our most important goals over the next 3 years - setting our students up for success on their path to becoming leaders and innovators for the African century. In this role, you will lay a strong foundation for career and university guidance that is embedded into the everyday learning and support at Nova Pioneer. You will be a thought leader, driving our vision to help students discover their interests, passions and strengths and match those to post-school opportunities, whether that be university, a gap year experience or a work experience. You will begin by developing partnerships with local and international universities, tertiary institutions and programs and will prepare our current grade 10's to begin preparing for when they graduate in 2019. You will work with our Nova Pioneer school-based teams to establish strong coaching systems that will guide our students as they make important decisions about their futures. As we scale, you will grow exceptional teams to provide support across our many campuses across the continent.

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Develop partnerships with a diverse range of local and international universities and other post-school opportunities for our students.
  • Design and build coaching systems and processes that will provide deep, ongoing mentorship and guidance to students that will help them to uncover their passions, interests and strengths.
  • Guide students in selecting a post-school path that matches their strengths and interests and help them to identify opportunities to optimise their potential for entrance into programs they are excited about.
  • Help students to identify relevant financial assistance options that will ensure they can pursue their goals.
  • Support students as they navigate the university application process so that they can put their best foot forward.
  • Provide coaching and build rapport with students’ parents so that they are able to join their children in their journey toward preparing for life after graduation.

About You

Skills and Qualifications required:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree. Qualifications related to psychology and counseling are a plus.
  • You have 7+ years of work experience - experience working with young people especially coaching and mentoring is preferable. Relevant professional experiences include working in a school or university admissions.
  • You love working with young people and you know what makes them tick. You find joy in helping them to uncover their dreams for their future.
  • You are a strong communicator and are able to build rapport and confidence with students’ families as well as partner institutions.
  • You have a vision for the journey that our students will go on to reach their goals and are able to inspire others to take up that vision and run with it.
  • You are a strategic thinker and a thought leader but you are also able to translate your ideas into action and execute on them.
  • You have strong project management skills. You are able to juggle multiple tasks, provide support to junior level staff and meet deadlines and targets.
  • You are a problem solver - you are proactive in identifying issues and address these thoroughly by making effort to find appropriate solutions.
